Du kannst Dir vorstellen, wie geringe die [78] Summe und wie erniedrigend das Handwerk sein mu\u00df. Eine Menge Leute von allen Kalibern, Lumpige und Wohlgekleidete, sa\u00dfen auf St\u00fchlen und auf der Erde rund herum und warteten auf den Anfang, und eine Art von buntscheckigem Bedienten, der seinem Prinzipal das Geld sammelte, rief und wiederholte mit lauter Stimme: &quot;Manca ancora cinque soldi; ancora cinque soldi!&quot; Jeder warf seinen Soldo hin, und man machte gewaltige Augen, als ich einige Male mit einem schlechten Zw\u00f6lfkreuzerst\u00fcck der Forderung ein Ende machte und die Arbeit beschleunigte.
