Mais il y a une signora Landi, Mme Mazzei**** \u00e0 pr\u00e9sent, qui est tout \u00e0 fait extraordinaire. Elle improvise sans chanter, sans s&apos;arr\u00eater une minute, et avec un talent tr\u00e8s sup\u00e9rieur elle improvise une sc\u00e8ne de trag\u00e9die. Je lui ai donn\u00e9***** la reconnaissance d&apos;Iphig\u00e9nie en Tauride avec Oreste, et je vous assure que c&apos;\u00e9tait une sc\u00e8ne qu&apos;on pouvait \u00e9crire telle qu&apos;elle l&apos;a dite. Mais imaginez-vous une \u00e9norme personne qui, \u00e0 vingt-trois ans, a l&apos;air de quarante, des yeux louches, point de physionomie, point de gestes qu&apos;un mouvement d&apos;\u00e9ventail dans le moment le plus int\u00e9ressant, enfin une idole \u00e9gyptienne, une statue de Memnon sur laquelle on dirait que l&apos;inspiration tombe mais qu&apos;elle ne reste pas. Cachet noir.<\/p>\n<p>**Cette correction est rendue n\u00e9cessaire par l&apos;erreur faite par Mme de Sta\u00ebl en datant la lettre pr\u00e9c\u00e9dente.<\/p>\n<p>***Fortunata Sulgher Fantastici (1755-1824), improvisatrice renomm\u00e9e.<\/p>\n<p>****Orthographi\u00e9 &quot;Matzei&quot;. Sismondi gardera de m\u00eame une impression tr\u00e8s favorable de cette jeune femme et s&apos;adressera \u00e0 elle en 1807: &quot;J&apos;ai donc demand\u00e9 et obtenu que la Siga. Mazzei n\u00e9e Landi, celle que nous avons entendu improviser d&apos;une mani\u00e8re si distingu\u00e9e et si sup\u00e9rieure \u00e0 tous les autres, de se charger de cette traduction.
