On en a m\u00eame v\u00fb des traces chez ceux qui n&apos;ont pas seulement l&apos;id\u00e9e des moindres facult\u00e9s de l&apos;esprit: les Lappons, les Algonquins, les Hurons ont une espece de Po\u00ebsie, &amp; l&apos;on en trouvera partout o\u00f9 l&apos;imagination transpire. Main osons le dire, il n&apos;est point de Peuples \u00e0 [4] qui la Po\u00ebsie paroisse aussi familiere, &amp; en quelque sorte aussi naturelle qu&apos;aux Arabes &amp; aux Italiens: soit que leurs Langues (les plus souples &amp; les plus \u00e9nergiques de toutes) ayent la propri\u00e9t\u00e9 de peindre &amp; de colorer l&apos;expression, soit que le climat contribue \u00e0 former des t\u00eates Po\u00ebtiques. Ils semblent moissoner en plein champ les fleurs du Parnasse, tandis que les autres Peuples (dont la langue ou plus austere, ou plus born\u00e9e ne sert pas si bien l&apos;imagination), ne font que glaner. Les Po\u00ebtes Arabes sont sans nombre, ou plut\u00f4t chez eux tout est Po\u00ebte. Quant \u00e0 l&apos;Italie qui fait ici notre objet, on connoit sa fertilit\u00e9 en ce genre.<\/p>\n<p>Le Chanoine CRESCIMBENI, c\u00e9l\u00e9bre Ecrivain qui \u00e9toit \u00e0 la t\u00eate de l&apos;Acad\u00e9mie des Arcades, a fait l&apos;Histoire de la Po\u00ebsie Italienne en 6 Volumes <i>in<\/i>-4\u00ba. &amp; en la lisant on est \u00e9tonn\u00e9 de l&apos;immense quantit\u00e9 de Po\u00ebtes dont il a ramass\u00e9 les notices. C&apos;est d&apos;apr\u00e8s ce vaste fond de Bibliographie, que dans le <i>Journal de Juillet<\/i> 1755. on avoit commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 donner un abr\u00e9g\u00e9 historique [5] de la vie &amp; du caractere des principaux Po\u00ebtes de la Langue Toscane; mais entra\u00een\u00e9 par d&apos;autres matieres, on n&apos;a pas \u00e9t\u00e9 plus loin.
