Ces sortes d&apos;illustres, dont le Goldoni a donn\u00e9 une id\u00e9e dans une de ses com\u00e9dies, doivent \u00eatre pr\u00eats \u00e0 parler en vers sur tous les sujets qui peuvent leur \u00eatre propos\u00e9s, &amp; souvent m\u00eame \u00e0 les traiter dans le go\u00fbt h\u00e9ro\u00efque: il est ais\u00e9 de comprendre ce que doivent \u00eatre ces sortes de productions, peu estimables par elles-m\u00eames, mais qui demandent une grande habitude, &amp; beaucoup de vivacit\u00e9 d&apos;esprit. On trouve de ces improviseurs sur-tout dans les promenades de nuit. Quand ils se rencontrent plusieurs ensemble, il se d\u00e9fient r\u00e9ciproquement; celui qui propose le sujet a ordinairement l&apos;avantage, c&apos;est le public que est juge de la victoire. Quelques-uns de ces po\u00ebtes se sont fait une r\u00e9putation brillante. On voit dans la cath\u00e9drale de Sienne un monument \u00e9ri- [327] g\u00e9 \u00e0 la gloire du cavalier Bernardino Perfetti, Siennois, <i>poeta estemporaneo<\/i>, qui re\u00e7ut la couronne de laurier \u00e0 Rome au capitole en 1725 . . . .
