Elle voyait tous les jours les princes Borgh&egrave;se et Gonzaga de Mantoue. C&#8217;&eacute;tait une aimable personne, naturelle comme sont les Italiennes, bonne sans pr&eacute;tention. Sans &ecirc;tre jolie, elle &eacute;tait bien de figure. Elle avait alors entre trente et quarante ans. Si j&#8217;ai bonne m&eacute;moire, elle &eacute;tait un peu grav&eacute;e de petite v&eacute;role. Pendant le court s&eacute;jour que je fis &agrave; Florence, je la voyais tous les jours. J&#8217;avais de l&#8217;amiti&eacute; pour elle et elle me t&eacute;moignait de la bienveillance. Elle me dit un jour: <i> Ne faites pas trop de cas de mon talent: quand on est vraiment po&egrave;te, on &eacute;crit et l&#8217;on n&#8217;improvise pas.<\/i> <\/p>\n<p> [71] Ce qui la distingue de tous les improvisateurs, que j&#8217;ai entendu, c&#8217;est la connaissance des hommes, l&#8217;esprit aimable et fin, qui la rapprochait plus des fran&ccedil;aises que de ses compatriotes. Dans un grand souper que je fis chez elle, je la priai de nous faire &agrave; tous un couplet d&#8217;adieu. Chaque convive eut le sien assaisonn&eacute; d&#8217;une malice si douce, m&ecirc;l&eacute;e de tant d&#8217;esprit que tous remerci&egrave;rent du fond de leur c&oelig;ur ou de leur amour-propre, sans sentire la molle &eacute;pine qui para&icirc;t la rose aux yeux des initi&eacute;s. Je crois que la vie &eacute;tait douce avec cette charmante personne. Deux ans apr&egrave;s elle fut couronn&eacute;e au Capitole.
